Results of the of neoadjuvant polychemotherapy in the combined treatment of gastric cancer

Abstract

Objective. To analyze and systematize data on the treatment results, and morphological changes in neoplasms (N) in association with the use of neoadjuvant polychemotherapy (NPCT) in a complex treatment of gastric cancer (GC).

Materials and methods. Original publications containing information on the use of NPCT in the complex treatment of GC, pathomorphological changes (PC) of neoplasms in the course of this treatment, deposited in the resources of PubMed and the information portal eLIBRARY.RU, were studied. Olympus CX41 RF microscope, Olympus SC20 digital camera, Statistica 10.0 software package, Pearson criterion, Mann Whitney criterion, paired t-test were used.

Results. The most important aspects concerning the use of NPCT in complex treatment of GC were highlighted, and the treatment results and morphological changes of neoplasms in patients with this pathology in the course of this treatment were analyzed.

Conclusion. Currently, in the treatment of resectable GC, preference should be given to a combination of NPCT followed by radical surgery. The level of N pathomorphism and changes in neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NRL) might be promising criteria for assessing the effectiveness of the chosen chemotherapy (CT) regimen, as well as its subsequent use in the adjuvant setting.
